Global Cafe 17 June 2008 @ 10:00am

Guest Speaker:  Colonel John R. Moug, the Australian Defence Attaché  in Seoul

Speaking almost to the day the Korean War broke out in 1950, Colonel Moug will talk about how and why the Korean War started, and the involvement of the Australian and New Zealand forces who participated. He will also discuss the current situation with North Korea, and the role of the De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) and its serving forces. This promises to be a fascinating insight into historic and current events here in Korea, from an Australian perspective.

Colonel Moug is a graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, the Australian Army Command and Staff College, the Canadian Command and Staff Course and the Australian Joint Services Staff College.

As an Infantry officer, he saw regimental service with the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (Parachute).  His long and distinguished military career has included overseas deployments with the Rifle Company Butterworth, Malaysia, as a United Nations Military Observer in Kashmir, as Commander of the Australian Defence Force Contingent to the Solomon Islands (OP TREK) and as an Australian exchange instructor to the Canadian Forces College, Toronto.  He is also a former Commander of the Australian Army Parachute School.

Col. Moug is also Chief of the Australian Liaison Group United Nations Command and the Australian Member of the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission Advisory Group.
