March Coffee Morning & Walking Tour

ANZA Korea invites you to join our March Coffee Morning & Walking Tour!

As we mark the March 1st holiday long weekend, ANZA Korea invites you to join us at 9 am on Sunday, March 3rd, for a special coffee morning at cafe Auvers & walking tour of Seodaemun Prison and Independence Gate areas, led by Jacco Zwetsloot. We will start the day with cafe Auvers near Dongnimmun Station (line 3) at 9am and then start the walking tour at 10am to explore Seodaemun Prison and surrounding areas. 

ANZA members and newcomers are welcome to join!

SPECIAL GUEST INTRODUCTION
Jacco Zwetsloot has lived in Korea for 22 years and leads history walking tours by request through historical neighbourhoods, telling the stories of what happened in each place. He writes and speaks for a living, working for a number of companies in the public relations and media industries.

TOUR INTROUDUCTION
Independence Gate and Seodaemun Prison. These 2 sites have great significance in Korea’s early modern history, and also have ironic value. The Independence Gate was built to celebrate Korea’s independence from China, but also signaled Korea’s fall into the clutches of Imperial Japan. Seodaemun Prison was built under Japanese domination and was the site of many martyrdoms by Korean patriots, but was then used after Liberation from Japan by Korea’s dictatorial rulers to oppress dissidents.

Note: The tickets cover the cost of the walking tour. Coffee and snacks can be purchased by participants at their own cost (for those joining at 9am), or those who wish to skip the coffee and participate only in the walking tour can join the group directly at 10am.
